President Ghani To Attend Heart Of Asia Conference In Islamabad

KABUL: (MEP) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani is scheduled to attend the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process conference in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The statement was made by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah during the weekly Council of Ministers meeting.

Speaking at his weekly Council of Ministers meeting, Abdullah said government hopes the summit will yield results.

Pakistan media reported early Monday that an Afghan security team arrived in Islamabad on Sunday to prepare the ground for a possible visit of President Ashraf Ghani to Pakistan.

The summit is expected to be participated by Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, China, India, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the UAE officials.

This comes as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had met President Ghani on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris last week and invited the Afghan leader to the conference in Islamabad.

The US Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Richard Olson, met President Ghani in Kabul on Sunday and later said the Islamabad conference would provide an opportunity to Afghanistan and Pakistan to ease tensions and work together to combat terrorism.
