MEP: A commission tasked by President Ashraf Ghani nearly two weeks ago to review 500 kV power line project from Turkmenistan has approved plan on Tuesday to pass the line via Afghanistan’s Salang pass.

A statement by Presidential Palace said the decree of President Ghani based on the decisions of the National Commission for the Study of 500 kV power transmission line was submitted from Pul-e Khumri to Arghandi of Kabul to Salang Pass.

The commission decided so after reviewing all documents relating to the project they found that due to the progress already made and the need to avoid funding of the project from being stopped. The representatives of (Junbesh-e-Roshnayee) the Lighting Movement also agreed in the commission with the proposal.

Meanwhile, the presidential decree noted that a 220kW double circuit power line will be transmitted from Doshi to the central provinces to transmit 300 megawatt of electricity that would be enough for the entire central provinces.

According to the decree, the power 220kV power line should be performed to include the construction of a 220kV (double circuit) electricity network to transmit 300 megawatt of electricity from Doshi to center of Bamyan with the start of the project to be from the first of the month of June and should conclude in the solar year 1398.

A substation will be constructed in Bamyan province with the implementation of the project to be the start of the month of June and must finish in the solar year 1398.

In the commission, the minister of economy, Sattar Murad also participated said that Salang was approved as route of the transmission line.

“The central parts of Afghanistan will also receive ample electricity,” Murad said referring to Bamyan province.

A distribution network should be constructed in Bamyan to supply electricity to at least 20,000 families. The project should start in the month of June and should conclude in November of 1398, according to decree.

The decree stated that the relevant institutions have also been instructed to present a plan for the construction of electricity supply network in the other central provinces and must submit it to the cabinet for approval in six months.

A thermal power factory should also be built in Eshpeshta area of Bamyan and a 500kV transmission line should be built from Eshpeshta to Arghande.

The Ministry of Finance is required to adjust the project budget and review it at the mid-year of 1395 through national government budget and present it to the Parliament.
