President Ghani And Indian’s Modi Inaugurated Salma Dam, The New Season Of Growth

Salma DamMEP: Salma dam and a friendly dam between Afghanistan – India has officially inaugurated by the leaders of the two countries and were exploited.

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani arrived in Herat on Friday and Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi arrived today for the inauguration of Salma Dam.  

“With India’s help, a dream stretching back 40 years was realized on Saturday” Ghani said.

According to him, India has an important role in restoring hope to the house of the Afghan people and to strengthen relations between the two countries at the level of nation and state.

The President stressed that India’s name has tied with sweet memories in the country and Salma Dam will be a new page in the history of the region.

The dam was built and funded by India at a cost of $300 million USD.

The project has been executed and implemented by WAPCOS Ltd, a Government of India Undertaking under ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation.

“In addition, India has completed over 200 other small and big projects for Afghanistan and that through scholarship assistance by India, over 17,000 Afghan youth were able to acquire an education” Ghani stated.

He assumed the inauguration of Salma Dam as cooperation and development path efficient use of natural resources in the country.

Ghani without reference to the country said “some neighbors destroy it but our friends frequent it.”

The dam is located in the Chesth-e-Sharif district, the hydroelectric project, which is on the Hari Rud river, is expected to benefit hundreds of thousands of families in four districts of the province, by providing them with electricity and irrigation water.

Meanwhile, Modi in his speech said that India’s assistance across Afghanistan will persists and the Afghan people’s success is India’s longtime wish.

He said the division and dissension among the people of Afghanistan, would only benefit foreign enemies and India would always desire for Afghanistan to grow.

“The wicked people have always been presented at our borders and we know as long as insecurity and extremism are growing, terrorism in Afghanistan will not end, the Indian prime minister noted.

He added that the project will not only supply water to 560 villages in Herat but it will also provide electricity to 250,000 homes in the province.
