Ghani left Kabul on Wednesday afternoon for Astana in Kazakhstan where the 17th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) holds.

Ghani’s office said in a statement that the president will also deliver a speech at the summit and will meet with officials from a number of countries at sideline meetings.

The summit is scheduled to take place on 8-9 June in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Before leaving, Ghani condemned the attacks in Tehran in Iran and said “insurgents in the past week have targeted civilians in Kabul, Tehran and London which shows clearly that they are against civilization and humanity.”

“The people of Afghanistan are feeling the pain of our neighbor Iran,” Ghani said and called for joint fighting against the insurgency.

“Afghanistan has been on the frontline of the fight against insurgency for years. We are expecting that all our neighboring countries have taken the threats seriously and fight against these groups and their safe havens,” Ghani said.
