In the 1996 elections, Benjamin Netanyahu made the campaign slogan common. Despite the record of explosion of buses and hearing ambulance sirens in any place, television showed these scathing words frequently “No peace, no security, no reason to choose Peres.” Now, where are Israeli left-wing activists to shout the alike slogan in present situation: “No peace, no security, no reason to choose Netanyahu!”
Netanyahu in recent years without any success has established his position as Mr. Security but war against Hamas in Gaza has ended without victory and wave of successive protests have taken place across in the occupied territories. It is clear to everyone compared with other left-wing members that Netanyahu’s efforts as a leader who resorted to the policy of discrimination and waged the slogan of bringing peace was nothing but deception. Mahmoud Abbas refused to meet him and also Americans see the peace talks as an illusion.
Now all consider him as a wretch person. Netanyahu’s fabricated story about meeting of Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Hitler was a clumsy effort that he just did to strengthen his basic strategy. If you cannot establish a friendly relationship with someone, then scare your enemies. Based on the results of a public survey, 73% of people believe that he (Netanyahu) is not able to solve the problems of the recent wave of protests properly.
Netanyahu’s incompetence in various fields at home and abroad is exemplary and there is no need to explain that. The most important factor in recent clashes in the West Bank is nothing but Netanyahu’s clumsy policy in the international arena that caused Europe Union sanctions on Israel. Now it is time for his opponents to attack but they might be sleeping.
Zionist Union chairman Isaac Herzog and Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid rather than to send the 1.25 million people who voted for them into the street is still barricaded in the warm embrace of Face book pages and Knesset’s tribunes. The streets can be turned into a place that 165 million people who voted for Morteza party also join the supporters of Herzog and Lapid. Perhaps Herzog and Lipid scared because Netanyahu will accuse them of treason. It must be noted that these two (Herzog and Lipid) are not certain about the strength of their position among people.
Herzog still is trying to find a way to show a good image of himself among people instead of using words and speeches. Can he, with his trembling voice, calm down tens of thousands of protesters? Today the current government cannot be changed but more people could be brought out onto the streets in this situation.
Yesh Atid party & Zionist Union party have many organizational tools to launch massive protests in order to influence public opinion. Now Left-wing and moderate politicians cannot rely on Bibi (Netanyahu) but they can wage Netanyahu’s innovative slogan: “No peace, no security so no reason to choose Netanyahu.”
