More Than 100 Schools Under Taliban Control In Sar-e-Pol

Schools in AfghanistanMEP: Officials of Department of Education in Sar-e-Pol province say around 125 schools are under the control of armed Taliban in some parts of the province and this has caused many problems they face in the field of education.

Abdul Ghafoor Sarpoli, Head of provincial Education told the Middle East News Agency that in a large number of districts, female students in secondary and high school courses are not allowed to go to school.

He said Taliban’s activities, family’s ignorance, poverty and lack of economic-cultural female teachers of the things that prevent girls from going to school.

“We have raised this issue that the armed Taliban have control over 125 schools in the province with the competent authorities, in some areas that are more vulnerable our control team could not monitor, but some districts like Sozma Qala which is almost 70 percent under the control of armed Taliban, but for members of the supervisory does not have a problem” Sarpoli added.

According to Sarpoli, in some other parts of the province such as Kohestanad district which is under the control of Taliban from one year ago, no reports have been informed on closing schools despite the presence of insurgents and the rugged terrain.

There are no qualified teachers in most schools in the province and more schools are taught by non-professionals and mullahs, he noted.

Meanwhile, the head of women’s affairs in the Province, Nasima Arzeo also concerned on blocking of some girls’ from schools by their families and the closing of schools in the province.
