Mohaqiq reaction to the U.S new strategy

Mohammad Mohaqiq, the second vice of the chief executive of national unity government, described the U.S new strategy for Afghanistan and the South Asia region as an important step towards development and security of Afghanistan as well as counter terrorism.

The U.S new strategy on Afghanistan war and the South Asian region announced after 8 months has received many reactions.

The US President Donald Trump on Tuesday unveiled the new US strategy for Afghanistan and the South Asia region, emphasizing on continued efforts to eradicate terrorism and fight against menace of terror threatening the region and the world.

President Trump said: “For its part, Pakistan often gives safe haven to agents of chaos, violence, and terror.  The threat is worse because Pakistan and India are two nuclear-armed states whose tense relations threaten to spiral into conflict.  And that could happen.”

He said the next pillar of the new strategy is to change the approach and how to deal with Pakistan, emphasizing that we can no longer be silent about Pakistan’s safe havens for terrorist organizations, the Taliban, and other groups that pose a threat to the region and beyond, emphasizing that Pakistan has much to gain from partnering with our effort in Afghanistan.  It has much to lose by continuing to harbor criminals and terrorists.

“The U.S new strategy for Afghanistan and the South Asia region containing some strong points focuses on commitment towards Afghanistan development, standing by the national unity government and the security forces to defeat terrorism, strong concentration on limiting terrorist training and funding sources and condition-based not time table-based fight against terrorism.” Mohaqiq said

He added the new U.S strategy make Afghanistan hopeful about a future free from war and insecurity.

“Domestically, keeping the national unity and consensus alive and internationally, encouraging regional countries attention to fight against terrorism and avoiding division of world views and powers towards the issue can guarantee success of the news U.S strategy” Mohaqiq said

The second vice of the chief executive emphasized as a common regional mistake if according to each country`s interests terrorism is divided to bad and good, it will be harmful.

He added those who believe terrorists are good and support them financially cause an unideal polarization, something termed as proxy war whose evidence have been seen in Afghanistan.

“The U.S and Russia mutual ties, as the two superpowers, in fight against terrorism is possible; these two in other parts of the world are colleagues. Efforts should be made to keep Afghanistan immune against being turned to a proxy war battle field. A joint and clear definition of terrorism needs to made, something can unite all the world countries agree on a joint action against terrorism. If so, the negative consequences of proxy war including another possible and extended war will be controlled.” Mohaqiq said
