Kunduz – Takhar Highway Blocked For Traffic
MEP: Local officials in northern Kunduz province say that due to Taliban attacks on positions of security forces in Kunduz – Takhar route, the highway is closed to traffic.
A spokesman for Kunduz police chief, Mahfozullah Akbari said the highway in Khanabad district is blocked since last night due to heavy clashes between security forces and the armed Taliban.
According to him, the Taliban have been able to seize the areas of Khwaja Pesta and Aks Dawood.
Akbari added the ground and air reinforcements reached the area and operations against Taliban positions have intensified.
Security forces are trying to re-open the route for passengers, Kunduz police spokesman further added.
Meanwhile, the armed Taliban also confirmed they have launched attacks on security positions in Khanabad district.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, wrote in his Twitter account the attacks were launched from the middle of the night.
However, Akbari says six armed Taliban were killed and wounded so far in clashes.
