Kidnapped Son Of Former Pakistan Prime Minister Freed In Afghanistan

016805835_30300MEP: The kidnapped son of a former Pakistani prime minister, [Yousaf Raza Gilani] has been rescued in Afghanistan from insurgents after three years.

Ali Haider Gilani, the son of Yousaf Raza Gilani, “has been released on Tuesday in a joint operation carried out by the Afghan and US security forces in Ghazni province”, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said.

Preparations were being made to return Ali Haider to Pakistan following a medical check-up, according to the source.

Ali Haider was abducted from his home town of Multan, in southern Punjab province, two days before Pakistan’s landmark May 11, 2013 general election.

Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal, the Afghan ambassador in Islamabad, wrote on his Twitter page that “Ali Haider Gilani has been recovered from the al-Qaeda terrorist network.”

He congratulated Ali Haider’s liberation to his father Yousaf Raza Gilani.
