Kandahar Blast Death Toll Rises To 8 Killed, 14 Wounded

MEP: An explosion in the Kandahar governor’s guest house on Tuesday evening, killed at least eight people and 14 others including high-ranking officials of the province and ambassador to the United Arab Emirates wounded.

Samim Khpalwak, Kandahar governor’s spokesman told the Middle East Press, the explosion took place at around 7:00 pm when all guests were having dinner.

He said eight people were killed and 14 others including the governor, the deputy governor, the governor’s chief of staff and ambassador to the United Arab Emirates were injured in the blast.

Juma Mohammad Abdullah al-Kaabi, the UAE Ambassador had traveled to Kandahar for the opening of building a Daralayam project.

The report comes as casualties toll was as seven dead and 12 injured till last night.

Kandahar governor’s spokesman added the identities of the killed due to high burns could not be recognized.

While he did not specify the type of explosive, noted regarding the health condition of Abdul Ali Shamsi, deputy governor of Kandahar that he is in critical condition and is currently under treatment in the city.

However, Haji Mohammad Yousef Younesi, a member of the Kandahar provincial council, said the deputy governor of Kandahar may be dead due to high burns and injuries.

He stressed that the attack was the work of Afghanistan’s enemies and may have been a suicide attack.

The explosion also comes as yesterday Kabul and Helmand provinces witnessed deadly suicide attacks in which 30 people were killed and 70 others injured in Kabul twin suicide bombings.

The blast occurred at around 4:00 pm as a convoy of parliament staff was leaving the offices in Dar-ul-aman Road in PD6.

In Helmand suicide attack in Lashkar Gah, capital of province, four people were killed and seven others wounded.

The armed Taliban claimed the attacks in Kabul and Helmand, but rejected the Kandahar attack, calling it “the internal affairs of the province.”
