Kabul – Kandahar Highway Blocked Due To Heavy Clashes

MEP: As a result of heavy clashes between security forces and the armed Taliban in the area of Pul-e-Surkh of Maidan Wardak province, the highway of Kabul – Kandahar was blocked to traffic.

Mohammad Sardar Bakhtiari, a provincial member of Maidan Wardak council told the Middle East Press, the fighting began from around 4:00 am on Wednesday.

He said the clashes are still continuing in the area.

Quoting a security soldier, Bakhtiari said eight security forces have been killed so far in the conflict.

The armed Taliban after clashes with security forces, launched two major offensives in the district of Nerkh and Nambar highway, he added.

The provincial council member noted that civilians were also killed and wounded as a result of launching mortars and rockets in the clashes but the exact number is unknown yet.
