Japanese Pop Star Stabbed 20 Times By Fan
MEP: A Japanese pop star is in a critical condition after being stabbed for more than 20 times by an obsessed fan before a performance in Tokyo.
Mayu Tomita, 20, has not regained consciousness since she was stabbed in the neck and chest after refusing a gift from a fan.
Police told NBC News that 27-year-old Tomohiro Iwazaki was arrested at the scene on Saturday.
The singer had reportedly complained to police about the fan last month.
Japanese media says she contacted police after Mr Iwazaki started posting obsessive comments about her on Twitter and other social media sites.
The performer was scheduled to give a live performance later that night where she was stabbed, according to her blog.
Mr Iwazaki allegedly followed Miss Tomita after she arrived at a train station near the concert venue shortly after 5pm on Saturday, before attacking her with a knife after asking why she had returned his gift.
