Iraq’s al-Abadi leaves Saudi Arabia for Tehran

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has arrived in Iran capital, Tehran to hold talks with senior Iranian officials after a key trip to Saudi Arabia.

Heading a high-ranking delegation including five ministers of his cabinet, the Iraqi Premier was welcomed by Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh at Mehrabad airport on Tuesday.

Al-abadi started immediately negotiations with Iran leaders about ways to boost Tehran-Baghdad relations and the latest developments in the Middle East as he was later officially received by Iran’s First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri.

The prime minister after visiting Saudi Arabia is slated to leave Tehran for Kuwait on the last leg of his three-nation regional tour.

Addressing the briefing, the Iraqi prime minister said the two sides stressed the importance of expanding mutual relations, adding that they also made decisions to fight terrorism in a more strict way.

According to reports, Abadi plans to hold talks with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani.
