The trucks carrying humanitarian aid have finally entered three besieged towns in Syria as part of an agreement between Damascus and the militants to allow delivery of desperately-needed food and medicine into the areas.

Media reports said forty-four trucks operated by the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Syrian Red Crescent, the United Nations (UN) and World Food Program (WFP) left from Damascus for Madaya on Monday afternoon.

Earlier, 21 trucks carrying similar supplies left for the besieged towns of Fuaa and Kafraya, which are under militant’s siege in the northwest of the country.

Fuaa and Kafraya are more than 300 kilometers (180 miles) from Damascus, while Madaya is about 40 kilometers from the capital.

Reports have emerged over the past few days claiming that several people have died of starvation in Madaya, most of them patients. Pro-government sources have rejected the claims, saying militants in the area have withheld food from needy citizens.

The situation in Fouaa and Kefraya could be as terrible as Madaya, although media have hardly covered the barrier story of the two places, instead focusing on Madaya which has been surrounded by government forces and allies.
