House Of Parliament Summons Interior Minister Over Ghazni Prison Break

Afghanistan-ParlimentKABUL (Middle East Press) Members of the lower house of the parliament (Wolesi Jirga) on Monday expressed their discontent over security breach in southern Ghazni province that led to the Taliban break the prison and liberate around 400 inmates.

The WJ summoned Minister for Interior Noorul Haq Ulomi to the house to explain his stance on the situation. Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the house said the attack has raised many question about the state of security in Ghazni. Ibrahimi also criticized President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and his power-sharing Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah over worsening security in the country.

Earlier during the wee hours on Monday, Taliban carried out a coordinated attack on Ghazni’s central prison.

Local officials said the militants were wearing military uniforms when they waged attack on the central prison in the provincial capital. Mohammad Ali Ahmadi, deputy provincial has said attack was started by a suicide bomber that was followed by armed rebels entering the compound and shooting at guards. Ahmadi rejected militants’ claim of liberating 400 militants. He said only 152 Taliban prisoners have escaped.

A Taliban spokesman has said the attack began at around 02:00 am local time Monday 14 September and lasted for several hours during which the prison was overrun, several security personnel killed and wounded as well as some 400 inmates allowed to escape. In a message, the militants said three of their suicide attackers died in the process.
