Hekmatyar Retreats From Peace Talks With Afghan Government

HekmatyarMEP: Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of Hezb-e-Islami party has retreated and left peace deal between his group and the Afghan government.

In a message published in a Shadat publication linked to Hezb-e-Islami, Hekmatyar said [hopes] for a peace agreement with the government of Afghanistan is no more alive.

According to the message, Hekmatyar had urged the Afghan government to be dissolved, claiming that the majority does not accept it, therefore the efforts have been dismissed.

Meanwhile, sources close to Abdul Rahim Salim, a member of the HPC that closely examine the issues of the Party told Middle East News Agency that so far no details provided for them in this regard.

He said the peace agreement has been finalized and the Islamic Party’s delegation has also not answered to the following details and has not yet returned to Kabul.

The source added that reports on Hekmatyar’s withdrawal from the peace talks are some sort of gossips and the Council does not comment on rumors.

The report comes as recently, new demands and conditions were provided by the Party to peace talks and the HPC had rejected their demands.
