Heavy Snow Blocks Salang Pass
MEP: Due to snowfall and severe storms, the Salang Pass has been blocked on public and the passenger and freight vehicles on both sides of the tunnel were stopped.
General Mohammad Rajab, head of the Salang maintenance of the highway told the Middle East Press, the highway is blocked from around 9:30 am today (23 January) to the traffic.
He said intensity of the storm in northern Salang growing by the minute, and the field of view is limited and snowfall in Southern Salang continues.
Gen. Rajab stated that due to excessive limitations of seeing, due to deviation and fall of the vehicles, the Salang Pass is closed to all vehicles.
The institution vehicles are currently clearing the roads of snow and the highway will be open to the vehicles after full clearance, he added.
