Gunmen Release Five Of Kidnapped Passengers In Sar-e-Pul

Ali Akbar Andrabi, a spokesman for police chief of the province told the Middle East News Agency the men were kidnapped by Taliban insurgents on Wednesday evening.

“The insurgents stopped two vehicles in the village of ‘Da Mardi’ and took the passengers with them” Andrabi added.

Andrabi said that the number of passengers were initially 22 that 5 of them abandoned this afternoon and there is not report regarding the fate of 17 others.

He did not provide information about how the passengers released.

Police spokesman reiterated that the people have been abducted by Taliban insurgents and transferred to Awoqaf area of Sancharaki district. Investigations for their liberation started.

Motive behind the kidnapping is yet to be determined.

The report comes as two days before more than 200 passengers heading towards Badakhshan and Takhar, have been kidnapped by the Taliban insurgents that 12 of them were killed, 8 of them are being held hostage and the rest were released.
