Ghani’s Office ‘ARG’ Confirms Attack On Mullah Mansoor

ARGMEP: The Presidential Palace (ARG) or President Ashraf Ghani’s office confirmed the U.S drone strike on Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor on Saturday in Afghan-Pakistan border.

A statement by ARG said on Sunday that Mullah Mansoor was targeted on foreign soil.

According to US officials, Mansour was targeted, however no officials confirmed his death by now.

Mullah Mansoor, on the repeated requests of the people and the Afghan government has always rejected to end the war and violence in the country, the statement said.

ARG says that Taliban leader by seeking refuge in foreign territory continues to deception, concealment of facts, killing innocent people, terror, fright, drug trafficking and prevent the progress and development of Afghanistan and stubbornly insist on continuing the war.

The supporters of Mullah Mansoor were sparing no efforts in committing atrocities against the noble and Muslim people of Afghanistan, the statement noted.

“Mansoor was the target and was likely killed” by the strikes, which were carried out around 6:00 am by US Special Operations Forces, the US official said, speaking on conditions of anonymity. There were no other known casualties, reported AFP.

According to the statement, the Afghan government is trying to provide details of the operation about the fate of Mullah Mansoor and put the final review and its results as soon as possible to the public.

“The operation showed once again that terrorists and those who only seek war and violence, are safe in no place” the statement further added.

The strike, authorized by President Barack Obama, reportedly killed two adult male combatants as they traveled in a vehicle southwest of the town of Ahmad Wal, a US official said.

The ARG Palace considers Mullah Mansoor’s death as open doors for new opportunities for the Taliban groups to relinquish violence, abandon the strangers’ soil and return to the country by joining peace.
