Ghani: Afghanistan To Become The Center Of Regional Cooperation
MEP: President Ashraf Ghani on the sixteenth summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) referring to the expansion of regional cooperation said, that Afghanistan is rapidly becoming the center of this cooperation.
A statement by Presidential Palace said Saturday the summit was successfully held on Friday evening in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, attended by dozens of world’s leaders.
President Ghani during the summit said “the fifth wave of political violence, is extremism and terrorism.”
“These wide-spreading phenomena threaten stable relationships, the value of cooperation and dialogue between cultures and civilizations” he added.
The President further added that “if the fifth wave of violence is not addressed, not understanding its complexity and solution for it is not searched, access to success is not possible.”
According to Mr Ghani, “We should jointly know the perspective, depth and severity of the fifth wave of this because unfortunately, it will not leave any of us alone.”
The largest joint project is the revival of the Silk Road (Rahe Abreshm) and Afghanistan is a crossroads that connects point between Central Asia, South Asia and the Middle East and every step will be taken to revive this way, is commendable, the President noted.
According to the President, Afghanistan has two aspects, one “potential” and the second “threat”, the capacity is rapidly becoming the center of regional cooperation.
Emphasizing on cooperation among the member states of Shanghai that leads to stability and prosperity, Ghani said “the civil war in Afghanistan is not internal, the terrorist groups that come to Afghanistan, should be properly defined.”
The President in the end invited all members of SCO to jointly identify problems with Afghanistan and create a consensus in the areas of intelligence, political security.
President Ashraf Ghani a head of a high-ranking delegation left the country for Tashkent on Thursday to participate at this summit.
SCO was created in 2001 by the leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrzakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to expand cooperation in the areas of security, economic and regional cooperation. In 2011 in the twelfth summit of the organization held in Beijing, capital of China, Afghanistan received observer status in this organization.
