Former Herat Governor Released In Pakistan

Mr WahidiKABUL: (MEP) Former Herat governor Sayed Fazlullah Wahidi has been released in Pakistan who had been abducted by gunmen two weeks ago in Islamabad.

Pakistani authorities released Wahidi last night from Mardan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province from the kidnappers, Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

However, the kidnappers of Mr Wahdid have not been identified.

Wahidi said his release had been secured through diplomatic efforts and the assistance of tribal elders in the area.

He added that when the kidnappers tried to move him from one location to another, police intervened and opened fire on the kidnappers. ‎

The government of Afghanistan expressed gratitude from the attention and efforts of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for the liberation of Mr Wahidi and called on continued cooperation between the two countries in such cases and in other areas.
