Fierce Clashes In 400 Meters Of Uruzgan Headquarters

MEP: The armed Taliban arrived at the 400-meter headquarters of Uruzgan province in the city of Tarinkot after three days and have begun a fierce battle with security forces.

Dost Mohammad Nayaab, Uruzgan governor’s spokesman told the Middle East Press, clashes are currently ongoing in the city.

He said the armed group are firing at the provincial building but security forces trying to push back their attack.

A number of reinforcements arrived from Kandahar, but if further aid does not reach to Tarinkot, the Taliban is likely to capture the city, Nayaab added.

Apart from Tarinkot – Kandahar highway, other roads are closed to the provincial capital.

While some residents say the provincial governor and police chief fled from city center and have taken refuge to the National Army but Uruzgan governor’s spokesman says that the governor is leading the battle with security forces.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the armed Taliban wrote on his Twitter account that the group have gained major parts in the city saying the Central Prison has come under Taliban’s control and a number of prisoners were released.

But Uruzgan governor’s spokesman denies this claim altogether and says that the prison is under the control of government forces.

Notably that due to the intensification of conflicts, and markets in the city have generally closed to the public and people do not have to travel freely in the city.

However, the Interior Ministry and Defense Ministry officials say that more security forces deployed to Tarinkot claiming the city will never fall into the hands of the Taliban.
