irna1-82083720MEP: The Taliban insurgent group has reportedly confirmed the death of its leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor was killed in a US drone strike in Afghan-Pakistan border.

“Mullah Mansoor died in a strike attack on Friday night” Mullah Abdul Rauf, a senior commander of the group, said on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Afghan National Directorate of Security (NDS), confirmed Mansoor was killed in an airstrike in Pakistan.

His death took place in Dalbandin area of Balochistan province of Pakistan, NDS twitted on their social media.

The Presidential Palace (ARG) of President Ghani’s office also confirmed Mullah Mansoor was targeted by US drone attack.

ARG said that Taliban leader by seeking refuge in foreign territory continues to deception, concealment of facts, killing innocent people, terror, fright, drug trafficking and prevent the progress and development of Afghanistan and stubbornly insist on continuing the war.

In the meantime, Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) also confirmed Mullah Mansoor’s death saying “Taliban leader Akhtar Mansoor was killed in a drone strike in Quetta, Pakistan at 4:30 pm yesterday.” A statement by his office said.

The statement added that Mansoor’s car was attacked in Dahl Bandin area of Quetta.

The reports came after the US Department of Defense initially confirmed on Saturday that the Taliban supreme leader was targeted in a drone strike.
