China To Build New Airport Near Border With Russia

MEP: Сhina is set to build a new civilian airport in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang, in the city of Suifenhe, next to the border with Russia, Chinese Xinhua news agency reported on Saturday.

Construction is expected to begin in the near future, with an estimated cost of around 1.2 billion yuan ($179 million).

The airport is set to handle 450,000 passengers and 3,600 tons of cargo and mail a year, allowing 4,800 take-offs and landings annually, the news agency stated citing an official spokesperson for the city of Suifenhe.

An expressway leading to the future airport is already under construction. Suifenhe is currently Heilongjiang’s largest port to Russia, with almost a million cross-border trips a year.

The city’s annual trade volume exceeds 10 billion yuan.
