Chamtal And Chahar-Bolak Districts In Balkh Cleared Of Taliban Existence

MEP: The districts of Chamtal and Chahar Bolak of Balkh province were entirely cleared of the armed Taliban in a joint operation of security forces.

Sher Jan Durani, spokesman for Balkh Police Headquarters told the Middle East Press, the operation was launched on Friday in the districts of Chamtal, Chahar Bolak and capital of Balkh province. The operation is still continuing.

He said the armed Taliban have been driven back from Chamtal and Chahar Bolak districts and the casualties have been also inflicted upon them.

Six Taliban were killed and their bodies were left on the battlefield and a number of them were wounded, including a head of the group, Durani added.

According to Balkh Police Headquarters spokesman, the armed Taliban had come from the neighboring provinces to the districts in order to carry out suicide attacks during Eid days that their plan was foiled.

The armed opposition group did not comment on the report so far.
