Buddhist Mob Torches Myanmar Mosque
MEP: A Buddhist mob wielding weapons has reportedly torched a Muslim mosque in northern Myanmar in an act of hatred towards Muslims, state media reports.
The Friday incident happened after Buddhist extremist residents of the town of Hpakant raided the mosque while “wielding sticks, knives and other weapons” before burning it down, the state-run English daily, the Global New Light of Myanmar reported.
“The mob was unresponsive and entirely beyond control. The building was razed by the riotous crowd,” the paper reported, adding that the rampage was sparked by a dispute over the mosque’s construction.
None was however injured or killed in the violence and no arrest has been made so far.
