Afghanistan Political Leaders off to Pakistan

A number of political leaders attends a meeting in Islamabad with the invitation of Pak government.

Some media outlets in Pakistan reported that Afghan political leaders are going to present Islamabad today (Saturday, June 22, 2019).

Ex-president Hamid Karzai, FM Salahuddin Rabbani, Mohammad Karim Khalili, head of the Supreme Peace Council, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Mohammad Hanif Atmar, Younes Qanuni, Mohammad Mohaqiq, Ata Mohammad Noor, Mohammad Esmail Khan, Seyyed Hamed Gilani, Latif Pedram and a number of other political leaders have been invited to this meeting, Pak media announced.

While the Pakistani Foreign Ministry has confirmed this, but Karzai office has said he has been invited at a Pakistan-hosted meeting, but due to lack of consultation time amid the meeting, he did not take part.

The Taliban have also rejected the invitation and attendance at the meeting.

Pakistani media reported that the Taliban were invited to this meeting.

Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Atah Mohammad Noor, Mohammad Mohaqiq, Latif Pedram and Sayyed Hamed Gilani are said to have gone to Islamabad yesterday, and the number of other invitees is scheduled to travel to Pak today.

The meeting is taking place while a week later President Ghani is scheduled to travel to Islamabad amid PM Imran Khan`s invitation.
