149 Armed Taliban Members Killed, Wounded In Sar-e-Pul

MEP: Local officials in Sar-e-Pul province say the clashes between security forces and armed Taliban entered the sixth day in this province and in this period both sides suffered casualties.

Provincial governor Mohammad Zahir Wahdat said Saturday at a press conference that during the clashes in parts of Sheram and Sayyad districts, 64 members of armed Taliban were killed including nine senior commanders and 85 others have been injured.

He added that Taliban’s attacks to capture the center and parts of the northern by rallying their men, faced with security forces resistance led by Sheikh Nadeem military commander.

During the six-day battle, in addition to entering heavy casualties to the Taliban, three armored tanks and 5 Ranger vehicles of Taliban were destroyed and some heavy and light weapons were seized by security forces, Wahdat further added.

Though the governor of Sar-e-Pul say the armed Taliban offensive attacks have been pushed but adds that there are still security threats and the Taliban are preparing to carry out attacks more offensive again.

According to him, as the Taliban have adequate facilities, more conflicts can be happening.

Meanwhile, Wahdat expressed that seven security forces were killed and thirteen others wounded during the clashes.

This comes as Sayyed Hassan Sharifi Balkhabi, representative of Sar-e-Pul at a meeting on Saturday morning in Parliament stated that if enough troops are not sent to the province, there is a risk of falling.
