Darzaab district no longer under Daesh siege

Local authorities in Faryab province say the Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) terrorist attacks on the center of Darzaab district, which lasted for two days, were pushed back with the backing of the security forces and the group retreated with heavy casualties.

Mohammad Reza Ghafouri, spokesman for Jawzjan governor, told the Middle East Press the ISIL terrorist attacks on the upper center of Darzaab district have been pushed by security forces at around 12:00pm last night.

Ghafouri said 30 Daesh terrorists were killed and more than 10 wounded in last night’s clashes that led to the retreat of ISIL. Among them, two well-known commanders of the group by the names of Bashir and Mahmoud, one of whom is a citizen of Uzbekistan, were among those killed and their bodies remain on the battlefield.

He added that two security personnel were also killed in the conflict and two others were wounded.

Meanwhile, Halima Sadaf, a member of Jawzjan Provincial Council, in a conversation with the Middle East Press confirmed the withdrawal of ISIL from the center of the district, saying the group has now retreated one kilometer from the district center and settled in the village of “Maghol ha.”

“Security forces have been taking control of the city and so far no aid has come from the center to the district,” she added.

But local sources say the armed Taliban are capturing these areas and disarming the popular uprising, after Daesh terrorists withdrawn from the center of the district.

This report comes as on Tuesday, Jawzjan Provincial Council and local authorities in the district expressed concern about the fragility of the situation and demanded the early deployment of new troops.
