imagesKABUL: (Middle East Press) Two civilians have been shot dead by police and bodyguards of the head of the Ulema Council of western Herat province.

Ehsanullah Hayat, spokesman for the governor of Herat province said that the incident took place in the provincial capital last night.

He said a car crashed into the vehicle of the leader of the Ulema council after which fires were shot leaving two civilians killed.

Hayat added that four policemen and five bodyguards of the head of the Ulema Council were arrested following the incident in the area.

The arrested men have been put in jail and an investigation has been launched into the incident.
