Taliban: We Want To Be Removed From U.N Blacklist

TalibanKABUL: (MEP) The Taliban has demanded the United Nations (UN) to remove the group from the black list in order to resume peace talks with the Afghan government.

The Taliban set the pre-condition on the sidelines of an unofficial peace talks launched in Qatar by “Pugwash” institutions and by representing of the Afghan High Peace Council, Parliament and civil society in the framework of the informal delegation.

Pakistan’s Express Tribune newspaper reported that a senior member of the Taliban in talks with UN officials in Qatar said, Taliban want to be removed from a UN blacklist before considering rejoining peace talks aimed at ending a 15-year civil war.

This comes as the UN Security Council recently extended to increase sanctions on the group’s activities in Afghanistan for 18 months.
