Taliban Captures Darqad District in Takhar

Taliban-5KABUL: (Middle East Press) Taliban members have reportedly taken full control of the capital of Darqad district in northeastern Takhar province.

“The seizer of the district was followed by heavy clashes between security forces and Taliban insurgents Wednesday morning.” Said Atiq Haideri, the provincial deputy police chief.

He confirmed the withdrawal of all security forces from Darqad and the district’s fall into Taliban hands, however he did not release details regarding the casualties among security forces.

Meanwhile, other reports indicate that at least four security personnel were killed and many others were injured during the conflict.

Taliban insurgents have also suffered casualties.

Taliban have ramped up their attacks on security posts and other government installations following the announcement of their so-called ‘Spring Offensive’ in April.

They have been able to capture districts and large areas from government but lost them back to security forces after suffering heavy casualties.
