Stolen Newborn Found Alive After 18 Years On

MEP: A woman has been charged for kidnapping a newborn hours after her birth in a Florida hospital 18 years ago, the young woman Kamiyah Mobley has lived under another name, police said.

Authorities in Walterboro, South Carolina, have charged Gloria Williams, 51, with kidnapping.

Kamiyah Mobley, who was taken in July 1998, was found after a series of tip-offs helped end one of the state’s longest-ever kidnapping cases.

However, the 18-year-old, Mobley raised as Alexis Manigo, defended her abductor as the shocking truth came out.

Ms Mobley was allowed to spend a few emotional moments with Williams, crying “Momma” through the caged window of a security door after Williams waived extradition to Florida, according to WXJT-TV.

Williams’ neighbor described her as social worker who always provided for her daughter.

Williams is now facing extradition to Florida, where on a summer day nearly two decades ago she allegedly posed as a nurse and abducted an 8-pound baby girl wrapped in a pink and blue blanket.

The National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children reached out to the cold case detectives at the sheriff’s office, and Ms Mobley provided a swab of her cheek for DNA analysis that proved the match, the Sheriff said.

State Attorney Melissa Nelson said authorities have met with her biological parents and are working with them as the case progresses.

At the time of the kidnapping, police searched every floor and room of the hospital looking for Kamiyah.
