Powerful Earthquake Jolts Afghanistan

KABUL: (MEP) A powerful 6.2 magnitude earthquake rocked Capital, Kabul including other provinces of Afghanistan around 11:45 PM, the US Geological Survey said.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS) the epicenter of the quake was 40km WSW of Askasham district of northeastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan.

The USGS said on its website, the strong earthquake also jolted parts of Pakistan and Tajikistan.

Some 30 people have been reported to be injured in Pakistan’s tremor which was recorded at 6.9 magnitude in Peshawar city.

The location of the quake has been recorded at 36.515°N 71.135°E having a depth of 203.5km.

An AFP reporter said the earthquake appeared to continue for at least 30 seconds, while Twitter users as far away as New Delhi said they felt its impact.

The quake comes as a powerful earthquake rocked Afghanistan earlier in October with Richter scale recorded at 7.5 magnitude in which at least 115 people had been killed and over 500 others were wounded with at least 4,000 houses were destroyed.
