Police Detains 27 Students for Raising ISIS Flags in Nangarhar

KABUL: (Middle East Press) At least 27 students have been arrested on Monday night by security forces in Nangarhar University, who were affiliated with Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and had raised their flags.

Fazl Ahmad Sherzad, Nangarhar Police Chief said these people were identified and eventually 27 of them who were directly involved in this act were arrested in a raid conducted around 4 am in the morning.

The university students were arrested after they torched the national flag and instead raised the flags of ISIS and Taliban group, according to security officials.

The detainees are under investigation.

Security officials say, a number of the detainees also have links with Hezb-e-Islami Party led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.

Meanwhile, the governor of Nangarhar said investigations were underway to arrest teachers who are accused of politicizing the institution.

However, most of these teachers live in Pakistan, according to reports.

A large number of Nangarhar University students raised the flags of ISIS, Taliban and Hizb-e-Islami militant groups to organize further illegal demonstrations in a bid to disrupt the situation in Nangarhar last week against the government.
