Obama: Death of Mullah Mansoor, A Point Of Light In The Afghan Peace
MEP: US President Barack Obama has confirmed the death of the leader of the Taliban group Mullah Akhtar Mansoor, said it is an important landmark on the path to peace and prosperity in Afghanistan.
“We have removed the leader of an organization that persists his plots and attacks on US and the coalition forces and the Afghan people” IBC news agency reported quoted Barack Obama.
He added that this is an opportunity to Taliban insurgents to interact with peace with the government of Afghanistan and warned that the US every moment will take action against extremist networks.
Obama personally issued the license of Mansoor’s attack before visiting Vietnam.
An American drone strike in a restive province of Pakistan killed Mullah Akhtar Mansoor, the leader of the Afghan Taliban, the White House confirmed on Monday.
“Mansour rejected efforts by the Afghan government to seriously engage in peace talks and end the violence that has taken the lives of countless innocent Afghan men, women and children,” Mr. Obama continued in the statement. “The Taliban should seize the opportunity to pursue the only real path for ending this long conflict — joining the Afghan government in a reconciliation process that leads to lasting peace and stability.”
