A statement issued by NDS states that the Taliban militants were looking to detonate a Vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) in the city from Lalpur district via Gerdi Ghous area in Momand Darea district but the plot was thwarted by the security forces.

The statement adds that the VBIED was driven by two suicide bombers who had suicide vests in their bodies but the vehicle exploded during a gun battle with the security forces.
