Nangahar Residents Hold Rally Over Peace Action

“We want security in the province. War is not the solution. Taliban must follow peace negotiations,” said Abdul Rahman a civil society activist.

Meanwhile, a resident Noor Ahmad said “War and killing civilians is not acceptable for the people. Government, ISIS and the Taliban must abide by the [international] law of war [that protects civilians].”

“Until security has been fully restored in the province the people will continue to protest – this is a serious demand by residents,” said Zabiullah Zmarai the provincial council head.

This comes as Afghanistan and Pakistan have recently agreed to resume peace talks with the Taliban and a planning meeting is arranged between Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the United States in early January where the framework of the peace talks with the Taliban is expected to be taken place.
