Kabul, Berlin Agree On Refugee Deportations

MEP: The governments of Kabul and Berlin, have signed an agreement to withdraw and return Afghan asylum seekers in Germany.

On the eve of the Brussels summit on Afghanistan, Germany has announced that the Afghan refugees in the country’s exit agreement signed with the government of Kabul.

Germany’s interior ministry was quoted by Thomas de Maiziere as saying the two countries signed a joint declaration Sunday that will provide a “clear and reliable basis” for both voluntary returns and deportations.

The ministry added that the country would also help increase the acceptance of Afghan asylum seekers.

No further details were given regarding the report.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Germany, close to a million refugees have migrated in the country during the past two years and the government of Berlin were faced with a major challenge.
