CEO Meets Russian PM On The Sideline Of Shangahi Summit

KABUL: (MEP) Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah on Monday met with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on the sidelines of Shangahi Cooperation Organization conference in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou.

Abdullah who arrived in China on Monday for the two-day regional conference focused on terrorism is expected to deliver speech today Tuesday.

A statement from Abdullah’s office said, the two Afghan and Russian leaders discussed strengthening ties between the two nations during the meeting.

Abdullah told Medvedev that Afghanistan and Russia had good relations and hoped that the ties extend to cooperation in the areas of economy and development.

Referring to terrorism as a shared threat, Abdullah also called for cooperation to tackle the menace.

For his part, Russia’s Medvedev said his country wished to step up relations with Afghanistan in the areas of economy and politics.

Regional countries’ delegates have gathered in Zhengzhou to attend the meeting of SCO which was founded in 2001.

The organization includes China, Russia Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as member states. Afghanistan, Belarus, India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan are observers.
