Many Dead In Avalanche-Hit Hotel In Italy Earthquake
MEP: A number of people were killed after a ski hotel was buried by an avalanche in earthquake-hit central Italy, Italian media is reporting.
The heavy snowfall buried the remote, three-storey Hotel Rigopiano in the town of Farindola on the Gran Sasso mountain in the central Abruzzo region on Wednesday evening.
“There are many deaths,” Antonio Crocetta, the head of a mountain rescue team, was quoted as saying.
A rescue team are currently trying to ascertain how many victims are buried in the snow.
Up to 30 people were in the Rigopiano hotel at the time of the avalanche.
