977 Insurgents Killed, Injured in Helmand Operation

Security ForcesKABUL: (Middle East Press) At least 760 Taliban insurgents have been killed, 217 others wounded and 13 were arrested in the military operation launched about two months before in southern Helmand province, Ministry of Defense (MoD) announced on Sunday.

MoD issued a statement states that 11 Pakistani insurgents were also among those killed in the operation including senior Taliban commanders.

The operation is being led by 215 Maiwand Corps Musa Qala, Kajaki, Sangin, Naad Ali, Girishk and other areas of Helmand province.

Afghan National Army (ANA) Air Force, commandos, police and personnel from the National Directorate of Security (NDS) are part of the operation.

Afghan forces have seized and defused about 850 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during the operation, according to the statement.

The statement added that Mullah Saleem, Mullah Rahmatullah, Mullah Zaki, Fairoz, Farhad, Mullah Borhan, Mullah Zahir, Mawlawi Haqyar, Mullah Ehsaanullah, Mullah Janan, Qari Gulalai and Mullah Atta Mohammad are some prominent commanders of the group who were killed in the operation.

The statement also adds that security forces have cleared off the majority parts of the Helmand province.

Around 185 positions, five type of ‘Saracha’ cars and two motorcycles of the militants were captured and destroyed by security forces, according to MoD statement.
