13 Killed As Gunmen Attack Hotel In Somali Capital

MEP: A number armed gunmen have launched attack in a popular hotel in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu following a car bomb attack on the entrance to the building, killing at least 13 people.

The attack took place at the Dayah hotel, where some members of parliament were thought to be staying, police said on Wednesday.

The attackers firstly rammed an explosives-packed car into the gate of Dayah Hotel, which is near Somalia’s parliament in central Mogadishu, and then stormed inside exchanging fire with security guards.

A second massive car bomb blast went off after ambulances and journalists had arrived at the scene, leaving at least four reporters wounded, according to AFP news agency.

Maj Mohamed Ahmed, a police officer, told Reuters news agency the death toll from Wednesday’s attack could rise.
