Why Did Erdogan Fall From Favor?

KABUL: (Middle East Press) Ahmet Hakan one of the Turkish Islamist writers analyses the results of the 7 June parliamentary election and AK party’s defeat in Hürriyet Daily News. He stated the following reasons for the failure of Erdogan: Erdogan’s arrogance and blatant violation of the constitution and lack of impartiality of President in the election.

He also humiliated his opponents and their fans. On one hand, the president, on the other hand the prime minister held rallies. General Managers and heads of departments, governors and district governors were all at their service.

All the walls of all cities were exposed to the smile of Ahmet Davutoğlu. These are some reasons for the failure of this political party in Turkey, which is headed Turkey for political instability.

He despised everybody and everything. It made upset people when Erdogan as their president humiliated opposite parties in different elections meetings and they expressed their anger through not voting to AK party.

Ruling party loses majority as pro-Kurdish HDP gains seats. Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s Justice and Development party wins 41% of vote – meaning it will need a coalition partner to form a government(276 seats are required to form a single party government). Thus, Turkey is entering an era of coalition government, which is associated with political and economic instability by many people due to not very successful previous examples. Such as what was seen in Turkey from 1999 to 2002, the 57th government of Turkey (28 May 1999 – 18 November 2002) was a coalition government led by Bülent Ecevit of Democratic Left Party (DSP).

The number of seats gained by the most successful party in the elections held on 18 April 1999 was only 136 out of 550. Thus, at least three parties had to form the government.

Ecevit asked Motherland Party (ANAP) with 86 seats and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) with 129 seats to participate in the government.

This Turk analyst referring to the AK Party policy towards Israel wrote: AKP government may one day be forced to lost much more than today for expanding political and economic strategic ties with Israel.

Turkish informed religious figures believe that the wrath of God is being revealed through Erdogan’s injustice toward Syrian people, AK Party’s participation in terrorist crimes in Syria and Iraq and Turkish-Israeli economic relations, so Erdogan should await greater failure in coming elections.
