US Will Not Lift Sanctions to Negotiate with Iran, Says Trump

KABUL (MEP) – In response to proposal made by Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, the US president rejected talks on the condition of sanctions removal.

The comments came after Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif spoke to the German Der Spiegel magazine, suggesting that Iran was still open to talks with the US, even after the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, granted that the restrictions would be lifted.

Iran’s Foreign Minister has said Europeans’ obedience to the US is a “catastrophe” and would be responsible for any possible consequences if they wanted to reverse the sanctions.

Trump’s remarks come amid repeated talks between the United States and Iran were cancelled for various reasons, and in all cases Tehran has insisted on lifting sanctions.

However, Iran’s nuclear chief said yesterday that Tehran had the capacity to enrich uranium at any percentage if willing, including, apparently, weapons-grade enrichment.

He also said that the country’s stock of uranium has surpassed 1,200 kilograms, and it will be enriched quickly; under the 2015 deal, however, Iran’s enriched uranium stock was capped at 300 kilograms.
