US – Taliban Talks Resume in Qatar
KABUL (MEP) – US officials announces resumption of peace talks with Taliban in Doha, capital of Qatar.
US sources have said that today Saturday, December 07, US Special Envoy for Peace Zalmai Khalilzad has officially launched talks with Taliban representatives in Doha, Qatar.
Sources said the Taliban’s reduction of violence in Afghanistan and the intra-Afghan talks are among the key items in the talks.
Earlier, Zalmai Khalilzad had said on a trip to Kabul that efforts were under way to start negotiations.
The armed Taliban have not commented so far.
Khalilzad’s one-year efforts and his nine-term talks with the Taliban were halted by US President Donald Trump in September following a Taliban suicide attack in PD6 of Kabul.
