UPDATED: 31 Dead, 160 Wounded In Kabul ‘Deh Mazang’ Explosion

explosion in KabulMEP: As a result of a powerful explosion between protesters of Lightening movement or (Junbesh-e-Roshnaye) in Deh mazang area of Kabul city, at least 31 people were killed and some 160 others wounded.

Ministry of Public Health says so far (an hour after the explosion) 31 people killed and 160 injured have been transferred to hospitals in Kabul.

The deadly explosion took place on Saturday at around 2:30 PM when thousands of people had gathered to protest the transmission power line of 500 kilowatts lighting of Turkmenistan via Bamiyan province.

Images were published on media and social networks showing dead bodies on the streets.

Farzad Habib, who attended the protest told the Middle East News Agency the explosion occurred after a new group of participants from another district joined the rally in the area.

Kabul security officials have not yet commented in this regard.

The casualties toll can possibly increase as the number of injured is still unclear.

Presidential Palace (ARG) strongly condemned the deadly attack in the city.

Kabul blast

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has ordered all institutions and public authorities to use all means to deal with the wounded in the blast and transfer the wounded to equipped hospitals for emergencies (such as national security and Sardar Mohammad Daoud Khan Hospitals), a statement by his office said.

The statement though did not disclose the exact number of casualties but adds a large number of citizens killed and injured in the incident.

No group including armed Taliban or Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) terrorists claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
