Unidentified Gunmen Kidnap 19 Deminers In Paktia Province

KABUL: (Middle East Press) At least 19 Afghan deminers were abducted by a number of unknown gunmen in south eastern Paktia province on Sunday night, local officials reported.

Deputy Governor of Paktia, Abdul Wali Sahi said, the deminers were abducted during clearing mines in Gardez district.

He added that 36 people were busy in the area when unknown gunmen arrived. But 17 other deminers managed to escape.

“The insurgents also stole four vehicles belonging to the deminers.”

Police officials have launched investigations into the incident.

No group or the Taliban insurgents claimed responsibility for the incident so far.

Kidnapping and abduction cases has rapidly increased across the country in recent weeks.
