Ukrainian Plane Crashes in Tehran; All 176 Passengers, Crew Aboard Killed

KABUL (MEP) – UPDATE; The Ukrainian plane, which was carrying 167 passengers and 9 crew members, went down today morning killing everyone on board, said spokesman for Imam Khomeini International Airport.

The Ukrainian airliner has crashed after taking off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport early on Wednesday January, 8.

Ali Kashani, a spokesman for the airport, told media that the Ukrainian plane had taken off when a fire struck one of its engines, near Parand, a suburb southwest of capital Tehran.

The Boeing 737-800, a Ukrainian airliner, was carrying 167 passengers and 9 crew members, all of whom died in the crash, he said.

The aircraft had Iranian and foreign passengers leaving Tehran for the Ukrainian capital, Kiev.
