UAEcourt_1KABUL: (MEP) A top security court in the United Arab Emirates has sentenced 11 suspects for life accused of planning terror attacks on Sunday in the Arab country, state media said.

State news agency WAM reported, a total of 41 defendants were charged in October with “possessing firearms and ammunition with the intention of committing terrorist crimes against the country and its security.”

The Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi on Sunday also gave jail terms to 27 others on the same grounds: two for 15 years, 13 for ten, two others for five years, six for three, and four to six months, according to WAM.

The men were accused of “raising funds and financial support to other terrorist groups such as Nusra Front and Daesh in Syria,” WAM added, referring to the “Islamic State” group by its Arabic name.

According to the Khaleej Times newspaper, the defendants were convicted of “plotting to carry out terrorist operations throughout the country.”

They were also found guilty of “endangering the safety and security of the country and the lives of individuals, including the leadership and its symbols with the intention to cause damage to state and private infrastructure.”
